I do shop around when I can do and most weeks I take advantage of using Mysupermarket to check prices. 1 item that I do buy every week is Butcher's Choice (dog food) which most weeks is priced at £5 but 2 weeks ago it jumped up to £5.58 then a week later it was the same price of £5.58 and I've just got back and guess what? It's back down to £5.
It's just a joke! the supermarkets do this week in week out by putting prices up and then back down again. Anybody else come across this happening to items they purchase on a regular basis?
Rant over :-)

It might be a joke, but they've been doing it for years so it must work.0 -
Happens on almost every item, in every store. Just stock up when it's low.0

All the SMs watch each others prices and change them accordingly. They're trying to keep ahead of competitors. They don't give a **** about customers really. They'll charge whatever they think they can get away with provided it isn't so much that the customer goes elsewhere.
As DPJ said, whenever possible stock up on non-perishables when you see them at a good price. You need to pay a bit more up front but you gain long term.0 -
Can I just point out that all supermarkets are business and their whole purpose in life is to make money and not be a charity.
All businesses will try to sell at the best price they can and also it depends on the deals they can get from the producer. My Motto in Life:
Make Every Penny Count !!!!0 -
Would we rather that they keep the prices artificially high when they could've reduced them, just so that we don't get upset when they go back up again?
I check the price of almost everything I buy. I'm retired, so I have both the financial incentive and time to do so.If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

I find by changing the supermarket I shop at I can cover these problems but I do think the way to 'beat' the supermarkets is to buy the same items on a regular basis so that you are aware when the price goes up or down.
A few years ago I noticed the price of spring onions was going through the roof, it was one of our weekly staples we stopped buying them and used normal onions and now the price seems to have come back down to about 10 years ago, not sure why but there you go:cool:0 -
They put the price up on some items and reduce others to compensate.
What goes up and what comes down will vary each week/month.0 -
I like the small Dickinson & Morris small pork pies. Not that long ago, they were under a pound, then my local Sainsburys put them up to £1.09.
I was in Sainsburys in Ladbroke Grove on Sunday and they were charging £1.30 !!!0
