Mortgage with a bad credit history

I'm looking at buying a new house at around 150k at no more than 75%ltv. Income is 25k partners is 6k. Will be a joint mortgage. Here's the problem, I have defaults from over 6 years ago that were never settled. They no longer appear on my credit file but could they come back to haunt me? Am I blacklisted by other means. Money owing on the defaults was in excess of 10k. Current CRA scores are excellent. Any input much appreciated

Get copies of all three CRA reports, if you can't see any problems there then neither can lenders.

Consider applying for a mortgage from a company you havn't had any previous past unpleasantness with. Some companies will keep their own records that may go back further than 6 years.

Cheers. That's what I was thinking! Do they share info other than through the CRA's? Are capital one and hsbc related at all?

As above, over 6 year old defaults at 75%... getting a mortgage should be fine.

The only time it may cause problems is if you owe money to the mortgage lender of choice.

I dont think capital one are part of HSBC.

Tentative link if you have any American history

"In August 2011, Capital One reached a deal with HSBC to acquire its U.S. credit card operations."

    Unlikely to effect you.
