No sick pay?

my DH works as a lorry driver. He is employed by an agency and these last 2 months has been at just the one firm 5 days a week working for them via the agency. last week he was off work mon to fri inclusive after suffering an asthma attack and hospitalization. he went back to work on Monday this week.
Is he entitled to any sick pay for last week?
The agency said they would look into it and payday is fri 1 week in arrears but so far nothing has been paid into the bank.

Unless company sick pay is offered then it would only be SSP which is not payable for the first three days. So, very little I'm afraid.

Is he employed by the agency or is he a (truly) self-employed driver that the agency contracts in as and when? If its the latter then he may not be entitled to even SSP

Even if nothing was being paid there would probably be a small tax rebate (cannot be certain on details given) so in first case check with payroll dept. what is happening.

Should not be happening these days but a few years back some employers were saying that they had only one qualifying day each week, this resulted in them not paying any SSP untill the fourth week of sickness. Just possible I suppose that there could be some left this using this.

Plus a small tax rebate assuming cumulative tax code and has tax paid to date. Were the employers rules for notifying sickness followed? Has it been checked with payroll dept?
