First steps

Hi everyone,

I've been reading this board for a while now on and off but I'm posting today to see if anyone else is in the same boat as me or has overcome any similar issues in the past.

Using some of the advice on this board I've managed in the past to make decent chunks out of my debt (currently sitting at around £25k) but then after a good few months I always find myself back to square one via online casino gambling.

I started off a year or so back doing the sign up offers from the other boards section and then contributing on other casino bonus sites and originally was playing it very safe, winning small amounts but they all added up but over the last 5 months I've become quite greedy within myself and although I've tried to stop I find the 'opportunity' of free cash too tempting and keep depositing, then in the main losing. Last night I lost more than I can afford for the month and this is the first time it's happened.

I suppose I'm really after advice on how to look at stopping from people that have been through the same so I can look at seriously tackling my debts and how other got past it?

:)

I think sometimes with debts we all want that quick fix, it feels like a huge hill to climb and years paying back.

Probably this thought at the back of your mind inspired you to try to get more and more cash probably in your mind seeing it as in "investment"

I think now you know it can add to the problem, you can download programs I think that block casino sites etc some wise person will come along that knows. You probably need to change your mind set now and see it not as free money but as a potential financial problem - which you don't want you have enough!

Without seeing how you stand each month it is pretty hard to see how you tackle the rest.

But well done for spotting the problem early on and I hope you can have the will power and strength to act on it.
  • I cant help with the gambling but well done for posting! It takes alot of bottle to face up to the fact that you have got to sort things out. Well done!

In regards to how I stand each month, I luckily do earn enough to be able to (just) pay off my outgoings over a month, but then once I start and add in a few casino offers, if I end up down on any of these then I begin to eat into my wages.

Take this full circle as I try to 'win' back what I've lost and and then I end up being short on either paying small amounts of my debt back or actually going overdrawn for a few days and getting charged.

You make a brilliant point about looking at it as a potential financial problem, it's this mind set that needs changing, which is harder than it probably looks.

    :)
