How does bankrupcy affect emigration ?

Just read a slightly worrying post thts got me thinking.

Firstly i hope to avoid bankrupcy - i wont be going for it myself but there is a slim chance one of my creditors may petition for my bankrupcy over a debt of £2400.

if they did go ahead and were successfull how would that effect y emigration chances with Australia. - We are half way through the visa process and ill be going on spouse visa whilst the wife will have a skilled visa (nurse) and we are not planning to head across the waters untill this time next year.

Any ideas ?

This sort of question has been posted several times before, and to the best of my knowledge there have been no reports of it being a problem, or any official info found that it might be one.

I have personally looked at both the US and Australian embassy and immigration service websites, and looked at the paperwork and terms and conditions. Again, I could find nothing to be worried about.

I was under the impression that to emigrate you had to be able to prove you could support yourself, as long as you had a skill and a certain amount of money they would consider you.

That is my impression as well.

I know that Australia and New Zealand using a scoring system to look at your financial, work, skills situation and many other factors that determine how you can contribute and 'add value' to that countries society.

Back to bankruptcy; as far a I can see from all the info I can find, the only way BR would effect an application would be if it impeded/effected some of the other factors I just mentioned. The simple existence of a BR on it's own would seem not to be a concern.

That i s true to an extent - You need to be able to take 100k AU$ or
go on a skilled migrant visa - We would be going on the Skilled visa as both of our jobs are oin the "needed" list and we have more than enough points with just my wife listed on it, nevermind me
