    Ok, job 2:

    Earnings at LEL: £3052
Earnings above LEL, up to PT: £887
Earnings above PT, up to UAP £68
Earnings above UAP, up to UEL: £0
    Employees Contributions: £8.18

The figures for the first few payslips are missing from the return figures. Your earnings at LEL should be higher and possibly also LEL to PT though at least this time your contribution looks OK.
Not sure if it is worth querying with employer if current NI is being done correctly. Is it likely to create any bad feeling towards you by the employer if you raised a query on the figures?
  • Thank you so much for all your help Chrisbur. To think that a week ago I understood absolutely nothing about NI, to this week I feel like an expert!! Always learning!

So it appears that in job 1, I have "acquired" approx. £1000 of income that was never earned. Im guessing the "mess up" started at week 18 (incidentaly, the same week I dropped my contract hours from 30 to 24). I have been back through the payslips and looked for the obvious .... maybe a finger slip, adding an extra "1" somewhere, but I can find nothing. However, armed with what you've told me and what ive learned, I shall speak to the accountant next Tuesday and see what he says. Obviously I shall speak to my employers first, as I guess they will have overpaid for me too (a negligible amount albeit, but im only one employee of approx. 50, probably the only one interested enough to check my stuff .... what if everyones is wrong? A "negligible" amount will suddenly become a whole lot!!)

Again, thank you. I truly appreciate this

There are some websites and software's for calculating salary, these software's are very easy to use and user friendly. I am using pay-stub.co for salary calculation and i found it very useful.

Nearly all of the tax/NI calculators are a little bit over-simplified. They will give most of the people the correct answer (within a few pence) most of the time; but there are circumstances when the answer that they give will be wrong. If the calculator agrees with what is on your payslip (within a few pence) then that is fine but if it does not agree do not assume that the payslip has been done incorrectly it could be that this is one of the times when the calculator has given the wrong answer. If you do find that the calculator gives something different to the payslip put the figures on here and someone who understands PAYE will check it out and advise.
