I'm stupid, council tax ignored, gone to court, not very well off :(

Hi PP,
Just wanted to send some support really, I hope you get a helpful advisor on the phone. I've been in your situation with the council tax, I actually owed nearer £3k as it was past council tax, community charge and poll tax from the last 7 years! (Am up to date with this years though
I'm now paying it over instalments which is going to take a few years but they are managable payments rather than previous promises of £100 a month which if I couldn't afford to make the whole payment I wouldn't pay anything and get myself deeper into trouble.
Good luck sorting your stuff out, I think you might benefit from putting together a statement of affairs (see Southern Scousers sticky at the top of this board) and letting the experienced DFW's on here take a look and help you budget. I think you've had your lightbulb moment, well done :T
It may all be feeling worse right now but you've already improved your situation by taking your head out of the sand, it can only get better from now.
Welcome to the board btw!

Took me so long to type that that you've replied! Well done, I'm really pleased for you - get down there and sort it out!
Plus remember for future reference, Rent and Council tax are priority debts and must be dealt with first. At least if you're skint you've got a roof over your head to be skint in!DFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -
I'm so pleased you are getting it sorted. Keep us posted so we know how it was all resolved.0

Wow, I don't know what to say really. I really am getting it sorted :-O
I went in there with nearly everything I needed (I have to go back with a few bits of proof of a few things but that's not a problem). I spent an hour with a guy going through everything sorting out the whole mess. Strangely his computer knew more about me than I did lol :S
He had about 10 forms that needed filling in but did them all for me, and was whipping through them so quickly it was just a blur in front of my eyes. I think he'd done that a few times before! :S If it were me it would of taken about a year and 8 hours. 8 hours to do and a year of procrastinating lol
So the outcome is no bailiffs, a claim likely to succeed the moment tomorrow morning I get down there with just a few piece of paper I've already dug out and have ready
Again thanks to everyone for their support, advice and motivation. It's made the world of difference to me
I can't thank you enough!

So happy you have sorted this out ((hugs))
See a problem shared with DFW's really is a problem solved
