clearing old defaults or letting them drop off

Ok so I have a few defaults on my file that are close to being repaid as part of a dmp . I have noticed 2 of my defaults still have a balance on them but have dropped off my file. I am still paying these off.
I have some more debts which defaulted in 09 and 08 therfore are due to drop off soon.
I've been told that if I clear these before the 6 yr mark then they will be classed as closed and settled but still visible on my file. Surely it's better for them to drop off after 6 yrs and then clear them?
Any advice or people is a similar position?

They will drop off 6 years from the initial default date. It would look marginally better in the meantime if they were paid.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I would have thought it more important to understand that they can still obtain a CCJ for them, regardless of the default date, given that they are still being paid.0
