Lowell, can they track me?

If you recognise the account (which I guess you do) you can establish that they:
1. Have the legal right to claim your money and
2. Have the sum correct
This is usually done with a CCA request. Although the law changed in April 2007 and they can now give you a reconstitution (or prove that you applied on t'internet, so you wouldn't have signed an agreement) it would be worth looking in to.
Also start thinking about how much you could afford if it comes to that (which it may well do).BSC No 248

I would do as Lensman suggests, make a CCA request to Lowell, from personal experience, they are useless at the niceties of paperwork, and have closed accounts straight away if the required paperwork is unavailable, but don't expect this to be the case, be prepared to have to pay it.
This is the standard letter you would send, also include the £1 statutory fee, cheque or postal order :(Your home address)To:
Date:
Dear Sir/Madam
Account/Ref No:
With reference to the above agreement, I/we would be grateful if you would send me/us a copy of this credit agreement and a full breakdown of the account including any interest or charges applied.
I/we understand that under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 [sections 77-79], I am/we are entitled to receive a copy of any credit agreement and a statement of account on request.
I/we enclose a payment of £1 which represents the fee payable under the Consumer Credit Act 1974.
I/we understand a copy of any credit agreement along with a statement of account should be supplied within 12 working days.
I/we understand that under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 creditors are unable to enforce an agreement if they fail to comply with the request for a copy of the agreement and statement of account under these sections of the Act.
I/we look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully

Think this is the same email address registered on my Experian record.
On the plus side, the amount isn't as big as I thought.
What do I do now?
Pay it back?0 -
Thank you everyone,
Today I received a text mesage from Fredrickson International, quoting a different reference number, and asking them to call me. I googled Fredrickson International and they are a Debt Collection Agency also. I have onlyever defaulted on the one debt.
Is this likely to be connected?0 -
Oh, and another thought, if I 'fess up to being the person associated with the debt, will that automatically put a black mark on my credit score, will they consolidate the record associated with the debt address with my current address?
For other personal reasons, I really don't want the addresses associated.0 -

Thank you sourcrates and eyeopener2
(and everyone else who has written in).
My big concern about writing in, and requesting proof, is that I will then be ultimately providing my current address and confirming that the information they have for me is correct. I really want to avoid this.
Or, is the fact that they have obtained my UK mobile number an indicator that they already know this?
Could I email them instead?0 -
