Urgent help required with credit file

Hi there

Hope I am posting on the right forum. Recently applied for a re-mortgage only to be turned down on the basis of defaults. 3 I knew about but 2 I didn't. The two that are not on the other 2 cra's are from British Gas in the sums of £45 and £139, neither of which I know anything about and are from 2009.

I did have a gas and electric account with BG about then but they actually owed me money at the time and credited it to me when I closed the account. Somehow this has ended up on my credit score and I want it removed. Can British Gas report to credit agencies ? Has come as a bit of a shock tbh.

If I didn't desparately need the re-mortgage I would just leave it but I've got to raise the cash to pay off the ex who will be chasing me through the courts if I dont.

Any advice on how to dispute this with British Gas or challenge their right to report to experian much appreciated. It isn't showing on Call Credit or Equifax.

Thanks

K

  • You need to produce as much evidence as possible that you are in the right and argue your case through thier complaints team.

If they have access to update the credit referrence agencies they also have access to make ammendments, if they make mistakes. Although im not sure if thre is a time limit.

I would suggest ddoing the following:

    1. obtain a copy of the credit file highlighting the default notices
    2. collate any documenation you have for this period of time and proof that you were owned funds.
    3. raise a formal complaint with Brittish Gas to start the investigation. Complaints are regulated so they will need to take you seriously.

    Good luck!
    If it helped, say thanks...
