When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

Morning  thanks for starting us off moomin!
So yesterday I found out I didn't get the job I had the interview for, but got really good feedback and found out I was the 2nd choice. Feedback was great, confidence boosting and the areas they said I was least strong on I was aware when I reflected on the meeting. So all good for the future hunt! I also received an email letting me know I have been shortlisted for the position I applied for on Monday which I really wanted an interview for :j Good to know also that my applications are getting me in to the running!
Any small things for today:
* [STRIKE]check banking[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]shift some funds[/STRIKE] - oh & I had the financial summit last night so know where we are
*[STRIKE] update ss to reflect above spends[/STRIKE]

*[STRIKE] check onepoll [/STRIKE]
* Some DIY tonight - more removing silicone - we are finally winning the battle with the stanley blades! Also sand and fill some holes in the kitchen (from a leak in the bathroom!)
* Call foreign student school and book a home visit but advise we can't host this coming weekend - we need to get a plasterer in to do our hallway before we open up our house!
* [STRIKE]call friend again to get the number of the plasterer,[/STRIKE] looks like I took it down wrong when he gave it to me previously! sent a text. Called plasterer and he is coming tomorrow to give me a quote :j

Morning Money savers,
Bit of a limbo day today, as my best money saving efforts are needed down the veggie garden today, but our street is dug up at the moment for new gas pipes & gas man arrived at breakfast time to turn off our gas supply. We have a long garden with the veggie garden the furthest away from the house. Am desperate to hear gas man knock to reconnect supply so am having to stay in earshot of front door. Grrr!
A few small positive things:
*Saved some energy by sharing bath water & having the gas switched off!
*Defrosted chicken livers for some pasta tonight. 80p from local butcher. Am going to do them with olive oil, & home-grown basil, chives & garlic.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks.
*Ironing - switched off for final garment.
*Get up to date on surveys. Just done that. Over £7 again on Onepoll already despite only having just banked the last £40 cash-in. Over a third of the way to next Toluna voucher.
*Swept courtyard, weeded slabs & moved a few things around to get a new look for zero spend (the best kind of new look!)
*Decide what to do with a box of the dark slate-coloured ceramic floor tiles leftover from new bathroom. Had intended to back them with felt & use for table mats as I've seen similar ones selling for as much as £16 for two, but it turns out that the tiles are too big & I wouldn't be able to lay the table without them overlapping, so am thinking again. They are nice ones & I'm not wasting a 'free' resource!
*Finish current knitting project. The pair of tiny socks on my needles should be the last pair (hoping to sell them later in the year).
*Sort through stash of old knitting mags to try & find a plain dk boy's jumper pattern which I can adapt to put a logo on for a present for one of my nephews. nearly bought one last week, then thought I should at least look through what I've already got.
*Planted out a pot of mini-daffodils so that they flower again next Spring. (Free flowers as they were a gift).
*Refill vintage glass decanter with el cheapo bubble bath. Instantly transforms it into something better, lol.
*Bake chocolate cake for mr f's youth group.....have lined the cake tins, can't do much more till the gas is reconnected.
*Free entertainment today, as have a recorded tv prog to watch & library book to finish.
*mr f made me a big flask of coffee for today (i.e we have a hob kettle & no gas!) which is keeping me going on the caffiene front otherwise I would have been trotting down to the village coffee shop, which would have involved not only 'coffee pence' but 'toasted teacake & being tempted by the farm shop pence'.
*Updated calendar for the next week or two so I know what days I need to make packed lunches/breakfasts. It saves so much money.......back before the LBM, we estimated that we were spending about £2k a year on buying lunches instead of taking pack-up to work. Horrifying, isn't it?!
OK, must crack on.
f x (DNMS - great about the good feedback. You were ready for a confidence boost after the way you've been treated. Good luck with the next one).2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0 -
Hello all
Thank you for the Fathers Day card reminder Lorriedriver!! Must post one for dad tomorrow - not sure where I'm going to get one (none in my card stash at home). We have a basket of cards in reception for £1 each - might find one there.....
Today I have/will:
- used two cards from stash at home (new baby and thank you)
- lift to and from work
- all meals from home (I have chicken livers in freezer that I'm not sure what to do with - may pinch Foxgloves' idea)
- checked bank accounts, no surprises
- laundry line drying
- baking - need to do bread rolls and pasties for menfolks' lunches as we have run out
- update my supersavvy Febreze project feedback (got a lovely box with three new fragrances but as have been ill have not tried them out yet - can smell again now so must be getting better)
- research and plan things for selling
Had a good chat with OH last night. He says if needs be the motorbike will just have to wait for repair until son has saved the money. He seems to be managing Ok getting lifts (it's the coming home from work in the early hours I worry about).
That's all for now - off to eat my leftover lunch
Best wishes to all x0 -
Solvencyseeker- I haven't used them in pasta before. I usually toss them in a bit of olive oil, salt & pepper & crushed garlic, put them on a piece of foil & grill them, then have them on crusty buttered toast. Lovely! Mr f 'not sure' if he eats them, but he'll be finding out later tonight, lol! At school, I had a very traditional cookery teacher so learned how to cook properly (as in old-style & economically, what to do with leftovers, etc). On the week we learned about offal, we made chicken liver pate. I can remember it was very nice & we cooked it in a bain marie, but I've never made it since.2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.

Tiles - maybe a cheese board? If that worked they could make great gifts at Christmas
Hope we get to see the little beauties

Thanks Foxgloves. I had similar cookery lessons (can make all kinds of pastry for example) but don't remember doing any offal.
I think I had pate in mind when I bought them (from the bargain shelf) but now I'm thinking they should do a main meal. I'll have to get them out of the freezer for tomorrow I think.
Mr SS eats liver so I'm sure he'll eat these - sons probably would rather starve
