19 Pack Cigerettes

So I went in to ASDA today and bought my usual Sterling cigarettes and noticed today that it was a 19 pack instead of 20, it also said it was a 19 pack on the side of the packet, but what I noticed on the Tesco website that they were still selling 20 packs of Sterling's and there was a multipack of 95 which is obviously 5 x 19 packs if that makes sense. I wanna know if this is some sort of scam or are all shops doing this with cigarettes now? I am confused...

It's not a scam by the shops, it's just the manufacturer increasing profit by putting less cigarettes in the pack and charging the same price.
Either tesco haven't updated their web site for the 20/19 packs, or more likely, they still have old 20 packs in stock but now only have the new 5 * 19 multi-packs.0 -
some brands are trying to stay below the ridiculous price threshold so taking a ciggy out enables them to do this.
the answer is to roll your own. costed my Twenty at £2.60 or thereabouts. and I buy the papers and tips at the local pound shop. my rolling machine came from there too.
I cant afford £8 for a packet of twenty ciggys. but, as a nicotine addict, I cant stop either - so its 'rollies' for me from now on.0 -
That's good to know, I am cutting down so I am not really worried about the 19 packs, it's just, I thought ASDA was perhaps scamming me by taking the 19 packs out of the multipacks and selling them to people (like myself), if that makes sense lol.0

Stop buying that rubbish, it's a weapon of control, have some self respect and don't be weak.0

So which brand do you recommend?
I've switched to rolling my own now.:footie:

Be glad it was clearly labelled - the old cig machine packets were routinely under 20.
I'll not moralise about the evil weed - your budget doubtless can be far more eloquent!0 -
that one cigarette is going to make all the difference in profits to that company0

What am I missing - they haven't just taken 1 out of a 20 pack... most of them are 'new'. for example I can still buy 20 of my usual brand for around £8 or their 'new' ones with 19 in for £5.99. If they just took one out of your usual packet the price would be reduced by around 35p. They must have reformulated to bring price down by £2.
Some people have suggested its to bring the price below a particular price bracket for tax reasons - but that doesnt work or we'd all be buying 10's instead.
Any ideas0 -
Where I live the quantity changed few months ago. First were £91.10 for 20 fags; £6.91 /20= £.3455 each.
Now we pay £6.80 for 19; £6.80/19=£.35789 each.
That's an increase in the prices disguised as a reduction.0
