don't forget to do a beta test before you launch it! :P
  • I am a software engineer. Also full time computer science student right now. Worked in web development from 2007 before moving into engineering. One of the biggest problems with the app world is that there are thousands of pointless apps. Thousands are poorly coded, badly designed and fail to take advantage of the system architecture. One of the biggest pieces of advice any software enginnering company will give you is this " why exactly do you need an app? ".

Java is your best language option for development. Java will help make your app portable and able to run on a multitude of devices that support Java as it runs via the Java Virtual Machine. Objective C is not that difficult at all and the Xcode framework is very good to work with.

Best to post in the 'techie' board I think, maybe more likely to run across someone who has experience.

I used to write software for mobile phones before it was called an 'app', safe to say that experience will count for nothing on a modern device unfortunately.

    haha yeah...
why don't you switch to apps? what are you doing now?
  • I also got benifits from here.
  • You could always look at outsourcing it to people on peopleperhour.com - you can get stuff pretty cheap on there.

Seems to me that the world has enough apps that it's pretty much impossible to do anything that (a) hasn't already been done, and (b) will make any money. If I could think of something, I'd do it. I have half an idea for something and the Android SDK, when I finally get around to switching to my new PC I will have a play.

Wrong attitude, I know. I have plenty of time, and no ideas. Mainly learning PHP now, so I can write code in a market where everyone else has more experience and will work for next to nothing.

Making money is still relatively easy...still good returns on advertising if you can get something people will install.

An idea having been done isn't really a reason not to do something, there's no real IP protection involved in apps as yet and certainly not a lot of brand loyalty. If you see an app that's doing OK, but you could do better, just do it better and odds on a lot of people will switch to using your app.

There are loads of apps that are...pants, frankly, and not hard to do better.
