Tax and salary query?

Okay quick question here. I don't earn enough to meet the tax threshold, I didn't last year either. I believe I was taxed a bit last year as on some weeks I'd earn enough that if you applied it to a year, I would pay tax. Now looking at my last couple of pay slips I've noticed I'm getting negative tax deductions. As in lets say I earned £150 this week, I am getting -£20 tax and thus getting £170 net pay. I assume this is how they re-pay tax they took but need to give back then? I had assumed it would be more like a lump sum cheque with my P60 or something(work just got these in last week, need to pick it up haha), not that it matters I'm just curious.

Does your pay vary each week?
If you earn over £192 one week you will get taxed. Then if you earn't under this amount the week after you would get some of the tax back (depending on the amount.
You should gave Gross Pay TD and Tax Paid TD on your payslip which will show how much you have paid since 6th April.0 -

Yes it can be highly variable, not get as many hours at the moment due to slow sales, but it can be anything from £250ish a week, down to around £130. Obviously that is why some weeks I get taxed.
Its more the mechanism of giving the tax back, as I say I had assumed that any tax I paid between April 2013 and 2014 which was owed back to me would just be given via a cheque say, not gradually given back by negative tax contributions of varying amounts (I got £8.25 tax back last week, £20 the week before etc).
I'll pick it up tomorrow morning and have a look see.0 -
The tax you are getting back will be from this tax year. If you earn't £130 one week you will have a personal allowance of £192-£130=£62 remaining.
If you have paid tax up until this point you will get £62 x 20% = £12.40 as a refund on the payslip.0
