Cabot asking for proof of date of birth

I have three old accounts which I am paying to Cabot. All three accounts are up to date in accordance with the agreed repayment plan.

Today I received a phone call from Cabot and was asked the usual security questions - address, post code and date of birth. He then said that they did not have my date of birth on file and so he could not speak to me. He asked me to send them a copy of my passport and driving licence. I said I was reluctant to do that as I had no reason to speak to them and therefore did not feel that I had to prove my date of birth. He said that was up to me and hung up!

What is going on?

They should have your date of birth on the documentation sent to them by your original creditors. If they haven't, or if it's been removed by accident then tough!!

If you accept that these are definitely your debts and as you are repaying them I really wouldn't worry too much about the fact that you have given them your date of birth.

But definitely don't send them a copy of your passport/driving licence etc.

If they ring again I would refuse to answer any security questions and ask them to put any future communication to you in writing.

    Hi Archie

I really don't see what Cabot could do with this piece of information that they're not doing already.

    Stay off the phone.

Send them a birthday card as proof along with a CCA.
  • You answered "security questions", asked by a random stranger, who rang you

True. I would be asking them to prove who they were.
