Paid 6k Under My Pay Grade

  • You won't see a payrise until you hand your notice in unfortunatly
  • Thanks for all the replies... really helps to sanitize my thoughts.

Im in the process of looking for a new job, but feel a little let down that I have too.

    Ok, just had another idea!

If a company uses pay grades and provides this information as benchmarks to the wider market place. Down they have an obligation to pay staff within those grades. Otherwise are they providing misleading/fraudulent information to the market place?
    If it helped, say thanks...

As has been mentioned, employers will pay whatever they can get away with. It is often a problem when you join a company on a low wage and then move up the scale that you never actually get pay parity with those who come into do those roles.

Whilst not an expert on this, I would suggest that there is no legal route here and that your options are

a - stay and accept the current pay rates (although negotiate hard)
b - leave for somewhere where you will be paid your worth
c - get another job and use this as a negotiating tactic to get a pay rise (but be prepared to leave if they don't back down)

    No! Sorry!

As I keep explaining unless they are discriminating for ONE OF THE FEW REASONS PROHIBITED BY LAW there is nothing you can do apart from negotiate

    What does your union say?

    Hi Everyone,

I’m seeking some advice before I take this up with my HR department, so I’m open to any thoughts or resources that you think might be useful.

I have worked for the same company for over 10 years and have progressed through the ranks. However my salary has been held back due to internal salary caps on internal recruitment.

I have been in my pay grade for some time, which I’m currently 6k under the starting point and therefore underpaid. Meetings have been held with my boss and he acknowledges that I should be paid more, but is unable to push the salary increase through.

I’m faced with little choice to leave the company as I will never be able to reach my earning potential at this rate.

Do I have any options? And are there any guidelines (legal or otherwise) I can use?

    Thanks.

Does being 6k under put you below the national mininum wage level?
