Where is the child whilst you are out at work currently?

Do you not have a home computer?

It is difficult to give more advice without specifics, what kind of work do you do?

You will need to spend much more than £300 for a decent PC so you can work as efficiently as possible.

Don't forget many broadband suppliers do not allow business use. Sky is one of them. Check before you sign up. You can still use it for business but you'll only get residential support so next day repair and no particular hurry to get things fixed and no compensation for loss of income due to no broadband.

Personally I'd tell them to stick the job unless they provide at the very least a computer and pay for a proper broadband connection. As you'll also need a land line they should also be contributing something to the line rental.

The term must be away from distractions wouldn't work for me. The OH keeps popping in for a chat almost every hour even though I'm say I'm very busy.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Tell them you don't have a spare room, what's their next move? They can't force you to move to a bigger house to accommodate them

Sounds to me like a good deal as additional costs are bound to balance out with savings, especially transport.

The only thing I find unreasonable is that they provide a computer. Isn't there issue with confidentiality anyway?

    This^^^

The company data and, more importantly, any customers' personal data must be kept securely. The company should have a data controller responsible for this.

Data should be adequately protected - that takes expensive software and encryption.

Ask for a copy of their policies and also ask the ICO for advice.

    Also, research this:

There are some useful contacts at the end of the document.

How can the company protect its network from viruses etc if they make people use their own PCs? Seems a big risk to me.

I was provided with everything I needed when I started working from home. PC & two monitors, phone, desk, chair, BT broadband etc. I wouldn't have been too bothered if they'd not paid for furniture but the very least I'd expect is the PC, phone & broadband.

At higher levels maybe but their initial call centre is just that. Staff with minimal training largely reading from a script.

Acas are as useful as chocolate ashtrays on motorbikes, you can ask for advice but don't trust it to be correct.
