Well its done! DMP Here I come

Just sent my email to SC with all the details required to set up token repayments and get DMP underway. As I was preparing it I received a Barclaycard email saying my payment was due, I did smile.

I spoke to my daughters who who were of the view it was a no brainer and my lovely new man looked over it all and said the debt is way too much for one person to handle.

So this morning I have cried , felt sick and dizzy and panicy but now I can breath again. Is it wine o'clock yet? lol

Thank you so much to all you lovely people who have advised and been so kind over last week. So glad I have been on here to decide on such an important issue.

So spreadsheets and cutbacks here I come :T:rotfl::j

I hope it goes well for you meredith.

If you have any questions or get any letters you are not sure of do ask for advice on here, as so many of the posters have been through or are in DMPs.

Have you set up a new bank account yet if you need to (if your existing bank are one of your creditors)?

  • Thanks Tixy, Yes I do intend using this board a lot more its been brilliant for me.

I have opened another account and thats ready to go. I am doing all the practical stuff today. To be honest this has been stressing me for so long I think that I do not even appreciate how much. Now its going to be manageable while I get back into full time work, I am thinking of it as an exciting challenge :D

    Good Luck :)

Don't forget that you absolutely must save an emergency fund as it won't be possible for you to get credit for quite a long time.

I'm on a DMP - be proud that you are dealing with your debt

Thank you, I entered the DMP now as I have a window of a month to start an emergency fund. It was pointless trying to carry on and to be honest the creditors have done well with what they got out of me since the ex went. I haven't missed any payments and been on the ball but the money has run out .
Good luck with your DMP too :T:beer:

I'm in the same boat as you Meredith. Just got a text from SC to confirm that my DMP has officially been set up and my first payment goes out on the 1st of July (2 days before my birthday!!!).

Never mind, I can finally start living without worrying too much (I will still get anxious when I get the calls from the Shop Direct Group, but I can put the phone down on them, nothing they can do).

Good luck Fuzzy!:T I wonder if mine will start on the 1st July too.

Its feeling all very odd at the moment ! Not sure if you feel the same Fuzzy? I am just dividing my money folder up so I have all debt stuff in one and all the current day to day in another. I do feel really sad at closing my First Direct account, they are always decent but feel like already everything seems less jumbled. I am having one DD account and another for food petrol and extras so I know exactly what is what.

    Can't believe I have done it:eek:

Good luck on your journey! Although it is hard, it is by far the best thing you could have done - facing up and dealing with your debts.

Remember too that SC are flexible and work with you. If you are struggling month to month, call them and they will help you!

Thank you Sinhanda , it really wasn't an easy choice I have cried buckets coming to this decision but its the fact the interest is so high I am not getting anywhere on the minimum repayments.

Just the relief of knowing next month my outgoings are halved is such a relief.

Good luck to you too Timetodoit will probably be seeing a lot of each other on here.:D
