Hiya, well il tell you my story:
After a failed year in college i got a well paid job in a bank call centre and wasted all of my wages, i took the loan, overdraft and credit card they gave me and wasted it (i was only 18).
I decided that this was not what i wanted to do for the rest of my life so decided to return to do my a-levels, which meant leaving the bank and finding part time work. I drifted from temp job to job and have now finished the 2 years of a-levels and feel have done well (results due 16th august!). Im now 20 and working in a bar on £4.50 per hour! Im doing as many hours as possible and still only getting £250 per month (tax is to be sorted out for next month) I have basically been accepted to uni to do spanish and business however i dont no where to go in life!
I done a levels in french, spanish and english language and believe i am nearly fluent in spanish, not so good in french but can cope to conversation level. The problem is what to do with my life!
I have always wanted to live abroad, i dont like this country.
Can anyone suggest jobs or give advice as i really dont know if uni will be for me, i think im going just to please family and boyfriend!
Please let me know, im even willing to go abroad or travel the country!
Thanks!

Hi
why are you thinking of going to university with so much debt, it will only get worse. Get yourself a year out and work and save as much as you can to get rid of your debts and prepare yourself for what you want to do. Visit your careers library they should have info on working abroad, consider your options carefully and plan. Not everything has to be done straight away. With some preparation you might decide uni is not for you. Whatever you do, good luck. I didn't know what I wanted to do until I was 32!0 -
Thank Jannyannie! I think i am going to uni because everyone thinks i am just failing by not going and that i got myself in debt because i wanted to get a degree to do the job i wanted!
I just dont no what to do i just want to escape! x0 -
become a translator! i'm not good at languages and you obviously enjoy it, there is no reason why you cant go to uni anytime in your life. I mean i left college, got married and had my first son at 18, i'll get some more education later on but plenty of time for that later. You only live once so have fun!0

Hi
my bf worked in france for a year after uni it was some sort of placement where he didn't get paid much but he did get his accomodation paid for ask at the careers office if there is anything like this around now it was about 18 years ago when my bf did this.
Maybe you could think about working with the European union to get a real international experience or the foreign office. They have a programe where people do admin cover for staff in the embasy's all over the world, I had a holiday where i was staying with someone that was connected to the british embasy in Turkey most people were your age and have a great time traveling the world.
You shouldn't go to uni for other people you should go for you and if you want to work abroad then its something you should look into. I hope I've given you some ideas.0 -
Can you write Spanish as well as you speak it? If so think about offering translation services. Will pay you more than £4.50 an hour. At this point I think that ANY full time job will be a help and I would echo others who suggest having a gap year to clear your debts. So talk to the job centre and ask if there are any jobs where your languages are a prerequisite. Not sure where you are but if near a large port or London, then you might want to think about working in a terminal ie port/ airport. Would certainly give your languages a work out and keep them sharp!
best of luck, and if it is any consolation, I am 40 and only now training for a job I want to do. So you have plenty of time to make a decision:D !
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?
