Have a root round Ebay - see if there are any similar selling and for what price.

Try this site for an idea of prices - they do valuations too - but at £2 a go, I wouldn't bother.

Also try typing the name of the LP in Google, and see what comes up for each one. Use 'vinyl' as a search word rather than LP.
"It was not my intention to do this in front of you. For that, I'm sorry. But you can take my word for it, your mother had it comin'."

There might be an online libary where you could search for certain books on the value of vinyl.
I have the same problem, I have loads of Lps,12inch and 75s to sell but need to find the value first.
I also heard on radio that there is a market that speacialises in rare vinyl, cant think of which market is it at the mo,it is in london , if i remember ill post

    Gl :)
ps. If you do find something could you post as i need the same thing.

Pollen has suggested the same websites as I am looking at at the mo. Also the advice Luis gave to me is working quite well athough time consuming with 100 LPs to research!!!!

Not sure how to suggest websites as Pollen has but also try vinlytap and rarerecords and vinylonethe . net

Hope I'm not breaking any rules by putting those on!?!?
  • Try your local library - an abundance of research material and all free! Depending on what albums they are I would suggest specialist auctions. Pick the right ones and you'll get the people there who will pay a good price for them.

Don't bother with E-Bay or these second hand record stores!

For example, if you have Beatles records then find out some info about each one then you can gauge whether it's worth something. Then search for 'beatles memorabillia auction' or 'record collectors auction'.
Watch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you![/SIZE]

It all depends on what is in your collection, condition, and any extras like artwork, picture sleeves, lyric sheets etc.. End of the day like anything it is only a valuation (which regardless what experts say is sometimes a 'Guesstimate'). Something might be 'limited edition' but limited to how many copies? Like books, vinyl can be re-pressed, re-issued, released on different labels etc..

As someone who buys, sells and collect vinyl the records you think are valuable/rare/collectable usually are not and vice versa. Try Record Collector monthly mag (if you think they maybe valuable), they also have books as well but like anything else its a business so it will cost you money and time to research. A lot of people just want to get rid for a variety of reasons as quick as possible. If you have already complied a list, then thats a start. If you want some more info, then just PM me.

Has anyone got anymore ideas about this one - there has been something on the radio saying that an insurance company has done a survey and estimate that most people have around £1500 of vinyl around their homes. the advice was to take photos of your LPs and catalogue them - as I had already.

However, the radio piece did not suggest how to flog them for max profit!!!

Can anyone help all of us with £1500 worth of vinyl!?!?

Your best bet would be either selling them on ebay or taking them to a dealer but I doubt the dealer would give you anything what you paod for them.
