P60 - who should provide it?

I left my previous employer on Friday 7th March and started working for my current employer on 10th March. I was provided with a P45 from previous employer which I passed a copy to my current employer. Unfortunately, since the turn of the financial year I'm yet to receive a P60 for 13/14 year, and when I asked about it my current employer said they don't issue because they never paid me any salary in this year. Basically, pay day for my new employer is 10th of the month, however, as I started on pay date I wasn't paid on this date. So come April 10th I was paid for the remainder of March and all of April.
Given their response, I'm not sure who is responsible for providing me a P60, my current or previous employer. Everywhere I'm reading it says the employer for whom you're employed by on the 5th April should provide the P60 which is my current but they're saying not.
Please advise.

Your current employer is correct, a P60 is issued by the employer for all employees employed as at 5 April provided a P11 has been completed. As you received no pay from them last tax year there would be no P11 so no P60. Like many people who change employer at this time of the year you will not get a P60.
You have the part 1A of the P45 with pay and tax details and hopefully you kept the last payslip from your old employer if you want NI details.0 -
It's not a problem in general not to have a P60. I don't have one for a couple of years where I happened to be unemployed at the start of April. Anything you would want your P60 for would accept your P45 instead.Sealed Pot Challenge #239

Not sure that this is correct for P60 forms;

Had this issue recently and could only obtain by post from HMRC. One of only two (IIRC) that could not be downloaded
"Part P" is not, and has never been, an accredited electrical qualification. It is a Building Regulation. No one can be "Part P qualified."
