special constabulary- interview

hiya,
my son has applied to join the 'specials' and he has to go for his PIR ( police initial recruitment test) next week.
Now I - as a mum- think that he should go in a suit and take some casual stuff to change into if he needs to do something else after..
Is this a good idea and has anyone got any hints and tips to help him along? I know he should do this by himself but if any of you have been/ or are a special can you think of anything that you did that helped at all??

thank you

My Niece's Fiance is a a special and as far as what to wear for the interview goes - he should do definately do the suit, tie and smart shoes bit.
He needs to look the business for his interview with the officers and they will expect and well turned our individual. He needs to present a certain air of professionality (is it a word?).
Also be cleanly shaved, well presented and tidy haircut - no necessarily boot camp - just smart. No earing nose rings etc.

The PIR test is usually just a group shown into a room, they do the test and leave. So not sure a suit is required.
He could ring up HQ personel and ask them if there is a dress code. He could make a small white lie about checking because he has to leave work etc to attend.
After the PIR test he will have a fitness test, then an interview and that will be followed by a medical. The interview and fitness test might be in the other order as all forces are different.
He should be able to get details of the fitness test requirements from the information pack they provided him with or from the website. The fitness test is not as ardous as it used to be and a resonably fit person should easily pass.
He should make contact with some serving officers (regular or specials) in the force he's applying too. Many have a dedicated training unit and they are usually happy to discuss the recruitment process. If he doesn't know any he could even just approach one in the street.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)
