    Look online for hotel grade sheets. Invariably they're plain white but they tend to be really thick. I bought some hotel grade white pillowcases a few years ago for 50p from Oswaldtwistle Mill - best 50p I've ever spent. They were apparently seconds but I couldn't tell.

    I agree with the posters who suggest finding out why they are tearing (rubbish quality or something rough/sharp being put against them), but you really should learn to sew! It is such a useful skill. Get a basic used sewing machine that can do nothing but sew a straight line, and go from there. You will be so glad that you did.

    I do the majority of my clothes sewing on a 1951 Singer machine that doens't even have zig zag, let alone anything more, and it cost me nearly nothing on a local auction site.
