Newlyn Debt Collection Council Tax

Hi Everyone,
I was looking for a bit of advice here.
Essentially I had a very bad year through unemployment last year and have council tax arrears of 1301 (including liability order costs).
I communicated with the council at every point, dropped back their statement of earnings by hand and even phoned them when I got a new job.
Today I got a letter from Newlyn threatening to come and try and repossess my goods if I hadn't paid or made arrangement to pay by the 16th of June.
I promptly phoned them today and told them that I was due a bonus from work on the 25th of July and I would pay the debt in full on that precise date. I also offered to make a token payment at the end of this month (25th pay day).
The chap on the phone decided to spend 5 minutes reminding me I had a liability order(I know this) and then said unless I pay 700 now then they'll be passing it to an enforcement officer.
I then told him my property was rented fully furnished so they aren't going to get any joy there, he then said they'll take my car, I don't have one. He then started rambling on about charges. I did lose my cool a bit at this point and told him if they were going to be unreasonable i'd pay the council directly, in my understanding creating a null debt - essentially meaning they get nothing.
Needless to say he's insisting he's sending someone round, I genuinely can't pay any of this until the end of the month and then the remainder at the end of next month.
Is there anything I can do to make them back off? I'm genuinely able to pay just not this very second. If they put a load of visitation charges on then its going to put the total debt outside my ability to settle at the end of next month.
Cheers
Marc

I would contact the council concerned, leave the bailiff out of the loop, explain, when you can pay, and ask them to call off the bailiffs, they can do this with a simple phone call straight away, should they wish, that would be my advice.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
