My wedding is in 5 weeks, but I have nothing to wear!

Hi everyone, a groom in need here!

I hope I can get your advise on something. My wedding is coming up in 5 weeks but I don't have anything to wear! All I know is that I hate suits and so will not be wearing one, and my wife has banned me from wearing a wedding dress (apparently it's her day, not mine!)

So I'm left with a dilemma: what the hell do I wear?

My usual day-time attire is usually jeans and a t-shirt, and in warmer weather, shorts and a t-shirt. I've only ever worn a suit twice in my life, both to weddings. Once when I was 5 so didn't have a say in the matter, the 2nd time a few years ago to my sister's wedding. I just found it uncomfortable and couldn't wait till the reception when I could just take off the jacket and tie!

I don't mind so much wearing a shirt and trousers like in the picture below which I wore to my first wedding, but this was in South Africa where it was much warmer so I could get away with it more.

My men's fashion knowledge is severely limited and I just can't think what I want. I've been mulling it over for months and can't make a decision. So any advise/suggestions you can make will be gratefully received! Our dress code is "Semi-formal/Rock Chic", so I need to look quite formal but without being too casual. I already have my shoes though which are High-top All Black leather Converse: http://www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/5,21/2452100133040

Also, both me and my wife are massive rock music fans and we'll have a band playing at the wedding, and all music played at our wedding will be within the rock and metal genres.

For mine I wore a paisley waiscoat with a shirt and tie, but it was in a hot country. Looked smart though, without the fussiness of a suit.

As a woman I hate suits (one men and women)....

    The exception being

I don't mean Daniel Craig - I mean undone bow ties...

No need for a jacket either...

I think you just have to get out there to the shops and see what there is that catches your eye (keep an open mind) and then just try stuff on until you find something that feels right. The trouble with coming up with an idea first is that then you generally can't find what you have in mind. I can't stand shopping, fashion is generally just not me. I'm pretty specific with what I want and what I like and rarely find it!

Other things that spring to mind when making your decision:
What does your wife expect you to wear, you don't want to upset her day!
Do you want to stand out from what your guests will wear?

Based on what you've described I'd be thinking a really amazing pair of jeans and a stunning shirt, something you like the look of, you're comfortable in and you'd get to wear again! Leather trousers?

Good luck, don't leave it too late and have a fantastic day!

ps Might be worth thinking about what shops would be good to look in. If I were looking for Rock Chic (which I do) I'd be at Afflecks Palace in Manchester buying a Hell Bunny dress or something similarly fantastic. Definitely not BHS!

How about something like this? Formal but not too formal.

Could you or an extremely artistic friend custom make a T shirt with a rock bride and groom on it? Wear it with jeans and a jacket? Maybe a leather jacket but again personalise the back of it somehow with studs. For an informal look, you'd have to go to carefully thought out detail to make it special so it doesn't look like can't be bothered.

Or, is glam rock too frilly for you as I love those shirts?

Smart (i.e. new, really black) black jeans, understated new black leather belt and a really good new white shirt - worn with the cuffs turned back once.

    Very Jimmy Page ;)

A few weeks ago we spent the day walking around Camden market on the hunt for stuff, but didn't find anything remotely suitable. I thought if anywhere would have stuff suitable for me, that's the place for it. Turns out I was either wrong, or just not looking hard enough!

After looking around the internet today, I'm thinking a full-length kilt/skirt would look amazing. Something like this:

How would your wife-to-be feel about you wearing a kilt?
