My natural hair colour is dark honey blonde, with highlights.
The highlights I used to get naturally, then over the years, and more working indoors they went darker. I went to a salon the beginning of this year and had my hair dyed for the first time. They got it very close to my original colour, but added too much ash for my liking, my daughter remarked parts of it looked almost sludgey and green! Though the salon lady said it was necessary to tone down the brassyness.
I now want to dye just to cover the greys coming in, but would prefer not to mess up the highlights. I like the multi-tonal look. I also don't want to go ashy, so many hair dyes seem to be ash blonde. My hair naturally turns golden blonde in the sun, and my skin tone is warm.
I go into shops and study the hair dyes, then get all overwhelmed and walk out!

No specific advice - I'm not, and never have been, blonde - but in your situation I'd consider one of the tone-on tone semi-permanents like Casting in a warm blonde; the colour you want your highlights to be. Because it's non-permanent, it won't lighten your natural colour and shouldn't really affect it much, but it should colour your greys, making "highlights" of them. And if you don't like it, it will wash out in a few months or you could try something else.
But I'm sure you'll get loads of options in other replies.0 -
I use John Freida Precision Foam in Extra Natural Light Blonde - it's so easy to use, and comes out with several tones of colour on my 'darkening with occasional greys' hair. It also smells reasonably okay, and the conditioner with it is gorgeous.
You can watch YouTube videos of different hair colours being used, and the final effects, which helped me when I was trying to decide which one to choose - for examples see these search results below:

These are for a John Frieda search, but you should be able to find videos of most colour brands as well. I like the ones where you get the see the end result as well.
Hope this helps.0
