Don't worry, oversights like these do happen. You will probably be charged an "admin fee" of around £25.00, and be told to make the payment ASAP. As long as make the payment within a week or so of the due date, it won't even show as a missed payment on your credit file, so act swiftly.

You have just entered into the largest financial transaction of your life so far and your boyfriend has "forgotten" to pay his half.

    !!!!!!.

I can't get over the disorganisation and stupidity of some people.

What a stupid and unhelpful thing to have written. It was an easy oversight to have made, and it was quickly rectified.

    Shame on you "wecanhelpu".

Exactly the same thing happened to me last month. And DH didn't have any excuse, he just took a small amount of money out at the beginning of the month and thought there was still enough in the account to make the payment. We were only about £10 short. We didn't have any fine from the mortgage people just from the current account for a failed DD. That was £35 which seemed a bit steep considering we were only £10 short, but DH phoned and apologised and promised never to let it happen again and they waived the fine. So phone and be really apologetic and you might get the fine back. Hopefully this will make your OH a bit more careful in future to put his share in.

However when we paid the mortgage the day later we were charged an overpayment fee so make sure this doesn't happen to you.

And yes it is stupid to miss the payment, just like it's stupid to get into debt to the extent that some people on this site are. But posting just to insult people who are worried doesn't help them
  • If its an abbey current account and its the first time it has happened they will reverse the £32 fine IIRC. Give them a ring and check - be nice and if you havent got charges on your account they will remove it!

wecanhelpu's post was a bit too critical. However, this is a serious issue and you must be more organised to service your mortgage in a competent manner.

There are some simple steps you can take to ensure that this situation never happens again:

    1. Ensure that there is always more in your a/c than the mortgage payment amount.
    2. Ensure that your mortgage payment date is well after the date(s) that salaries are paid into your a/c.
    3. Arrange an overdaft facility with your bank, for at least the amount of your mortgage payment.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

Good suggestions above. Also, it cannot be noted as arrears on your account until you are 2 payments (or equivalent) behind.

    I agree with wecanhelpu

We all expect disasters in life, thats errr life, but one PLANS for them and makes allowances. Not rocket science.

Funny how some people NEVER miss a payment yet experience the exact same trials of life. ORGANISATION is key to a happy life, the end.
