    Xmas Saver!
I think it was a weekend of car mishaps. Fortunately, this one has nothing to do with me.

I noticed a fence panel missing from one of the houses slightly further down the road. Its actually on the corner of a side road from mine, so the fence goes down the side of the house. The side of this house also sits on a junction, think of it like a dog leg junction, you turn right before the side of the house, and then left to go in front of the house. Its on a quiet estate, no through roads and is fairly quiet. I didn't think anything of the missing fence panel, the people in the house have lived there less than a year and have done all the inside up, had a new drive laid etc. so I just assumed they were getting something done in the garden.

However, after chatting to a neighbour, it turns out that about 3 o'clock on Saturday morning one of the people from another house down the street was on his way home after a few shandies.

    In his car.

Decided to not see the dog leg and drove his car into the fence, knocking down two panels and the concrete post that held them up.

And keep going into the side of the building.

Fortunately, said drunk driver walked away, and was not going fast enough to knock any bricks out of the house. He did get to sober up at the local nick and has also done extensive damage to the front of his car (which what be covered by his insurance as it becomes invalid if you are drink driving)

He has pushed rows of bricks of the house in by a few centimetres, put cracks in the external wall that go all the way round to the front of the house and also put cracks internally all over the side of the house. The chimney stack is also on that side of the house and that now has cracks going right up to the top of it.

We think that they will have to remove the entire outer skin of that side of the house, repair any damage to the inner wall and then rebuild it. They will also have to repair/replace internal walls to make them good. Not clue what they will do to the chimney stack, maybe have to dismantle and rebuild that too.

Fortunately this will be covered by Drunk Drivers insurance as the Third Party insurance is still valid.

So whilst your car might be bumped, and that is a painful thing to deal with, least its not your house.
