How to raise a grievance with employer without getting sacked?!

Hi Maf.e.u,
Thanks for the response. I had already trained as a healthcare consultant/counter assistant in a previous job, but there has been no further training in this post. Strangely enough, they are quite happy to let me dispense in this job but seem decidedly uncomfortable with me selling OTC medicines. I presume this is just because they are reassured by the double-checking that goes on in the dispensary compared to at the front counter."The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."0 -
You'll find that to be a standard attitude in many community pharmacies (independent and multiple). The duty pharmacist will prefer to do OTC/[P] sales him/herself as then they're the only POC. Like you refer to, all prescriptions are accuracy and clinically checked by the pharmacist so they will not mind you doing the "administration work" (i.e. getting it ready).
The problem is they can get away with not training you (not enrolling you anytime soon, anyways) depending on what duties their SOPs state you can and can't do.
There's not a lot you can really do short of offering to pay the fees yourself to cover the training and enrol yourself. If they don't train you, you're stuck and may as well find a Trainee role with Boots, Co-Op, Lloyds or Rowlands.0 -
I did offer to put myself through it. Went so far as to find a course etc but unfortunately I need someone to agree to be my tutor to sign off on each module and he wasn't willing.
I think I'm just going to have to get out. Shame really that it hasn't turned out as I'd hoped!"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."0 -
Maybe he has faked his own qualifications and it would lead to him being found out.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

I think it would be pretty hard to fake a pharmacy degree, plus your registration as well as your licence to actually run a pharmacy! Although it would make me feel a lot better if that turned out to be the case!"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."0

If they're not willing to be your tutor even if you pay then they certainly aren't going to arrange this training for you. may be they want to prevent having to pay you more, or prevent making it easier for you to leave. I'd keep any written (/email) evidence of that you've raised the issue and other than that it's the company's problem should the inspector come back.0
