Mini processor/blender?

I've got a regular food processor, a very OS one that came from my local Freecycle! However, the one thing it falls short on is blitzing up small volumes of things.

I'm looking to make homemade houmous in the near future, but will be making it fresh in small batches and don't think my processor will get a smooth consistancy. Don't think it will manage the sesame seed paste at all, either, as I'd be making it in such small amounts.

I also find it doesn't work too well trying to make granulated sugar into caster, as the sugar gets pushed to the edge and isn't cut by the blades.

So I think I need a smaller appliance for the job - is a mini food processor the kind of thing I need? Or will another tool be better for the job?

  • How about a STICK BLENDER? I've had one for years abd originally got it to puree small amounts of baby food when DD1 arrived. It came with a blending beaker for very small amounts, but I find it very effective in a big pan of soup too, they're good little gadgets.

Agree that a hand blender might just be what you are looking for. They come in all price ranges, and some have different attachments.
I've got a Kenwood with various attachments, and it's always in use, whereas my food processor hardly comes out of the cupboard. :o
Bought my daughter one from Lidl with 3 attachments (I think), and she thinks it's great, and again, is always in use. Think it was about £15.

I've never bought sesame seed paste, so don't know what texture it has. I tend to use a grinder for seeds/nuts and whole spices. Some stick blenders have grinder attachments.

I've recently bought one of these Kenwood mini choppers, they're around the £15-20 mark and a 'Delia Cheat'. Only used it a couple of times but supposed to be great for purees, pastes and chopping. So small it lives on the worktop too.

I have a stick blender but one of the blades bent somehow and it scratched the bottom of a non stick pan :o

I've got a Lidl mini chopper. It was about £8-£9 and it's great.

I have a kenwood multi mill which might be the same and it could be used but if you are looking for cheap option I would opt for a hand blender, you can get a new one from a supermarket for a tenner, or less on eBay.
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.
  • I just bought a Russell Hobbs mini chopper on offer in Asda. Haven't tried it out yet, but it seems quite sturdy.
From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!
