housing benefit and mortgage

Sorry, second time posting. Was suggested I post here instead.

Hoping for some advice and/or clarity.

I am hoping to secure employment in London next week with a start date in September (I live in Scotland at moment). I have not sold my house yet but would continue paying from afar with new job wage.

My partner is disabled and receives housing benefit for flat rental. When we inform benefits of me moving in, will they take into consideration that I am still paying a mortgage when recalculating housing benefit?

Thanks in advance!

No, they will not. In fact after a six month disregard (given if you are actively marketing your property for sale) any equity in the property will be counted as capital.

In fact after the six month disregard in fact Local Authorities can continue to disregard a property for sale for a further period of six months in fact and then review every six months and continue disregarding the property in fact.
These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but all new to me.

What do you mean by disregard?

Ignore it, as in not take it into account as capital.
