Hands on job search- please list where to look?

Hi I am desperate for a job now so really looking hard! I have experience in customer service, admin, shop work, but mainly as a teaching assistant/working in schools. I would really love to work in a library. I live in Coventry. Where do I look? There seems to be a lot of ways and I am going to jot them all down to get started on my search, so please help!

Thank you!
Up and onwards to the future!

Try the Indeed website, it's a aggregator that sucks in jobs from other websites. Put in all, your postcode and set it to come up in date order and check two-three times a day. You will soon find something

Indded is good, as above. also try twitter, facebook, linkedin.

You could ask at local library, colleges etc, too- see what training/qualifications needed- maybe volunteer sessions?

There are a few community libraries dotted about if you want to gain some experience. There's one to the north of Cov that's desperate for volunteers (they had to reduce hours recently due to volunteer shortages). I can PM you their details, if you like.

    That'd be great, thanks!!

Sign up for job alerts on local authority websites, which should allow you to specify library jobs. You could also look at universities, but they may be a bit more demanding about qualifications/experience.

I think you will find the Guardian jobs listings are worth keeping an eye on.

Wiggy have you contacted your old uni - Even if they have no paid work available they may have some library volunteering which could help you with extra experience on your CV. This time of year they are often reorganizing, stocktaking etc once exams are over and don't have students around to offer the work to.

I was wondering this too, when did the job centre website get so useless? Last time I was looking for a job was 3 years ago, and the job centre website was ace then, you clicked all the sectors like retail/enginering/construction, put in your post code, and up came a huge list of jobs, all with approx. distance from the post code. Now all you get is generic agency jobs, often the same one repeated several times over!

Any more tips on good websites where we can find actual firms advertising?

jobs go public lists a lot of the public sector jobs including schools and libraries.
Try Warwick and Coventry Unis as both will have libraries - may have an alert function to let you know about jobs.

If you find somewhere you want to work, it might also be worth starting up a conversation with them prior to applying. It helps for several reasons. They become aware that you are applying, and you get an idea of what they are looking for. This gives you better ability to craft an appropriate application, and they are awaiting it to arrive.

Email or phone, or a mix of both most likely.

This is to compliment the methods above..and dependent on it not being through an agency.
