Declined for mortgage 3 years ago due to CCJ

Hi,

around ten years ago I got into a debt situation and one particular default led to a County Court Judgement (CCJ). It took some time but I eventually paid all debts back in full and the final payment to these was around 5 years ago.

I spoke to a mortgage advisor around 3 years ago and he tried to source a mortgagae for me but I was declined. I am currently completely debt free and have been for 5 years, with some savings in the bank.

Can anyone advise the best route for me to try to get a mortgage now? Just go through a broker again and cross my fingers or go to a particular provider who deal with people with my type of history?

Any advice greatly appreciated,

David

Use a broker to ascertain your options. As they'll know the lenders criteria with regards to adverse history.

Speak to a broker, if thats the only issue there will definitely be lenders for it now.

Also, check your statutory credit reports with Experian, Equifax and Callcredit. If it's more than 6 years since the CCJ was issued, it will ahve disappeared from your credit history and might not have any impact at all.

    Hi All,

    Thanks for the quick replies!

I have been registered with Experian for a few years and my score was around 900 ish. I checked with the moertgage advisor when I was declined previously and he said that even if the CCJ wasnt showing...the lenders would still be aware of it.

Anyway, thanks again folks...now to find a trustworthy broker,

    David

Don't bother with the scores. Has no bearing on the outcome. What matters is how lenders view your file.
