A nice lady from Barclaycard just replied saying they are refunding me the £101+ interest which isn't a lot but it is when I am trying to pay back my debts. They had the Stepchange payment so are going to investigate when the interest was added and will get back to me soon. They apologised for the distress so that's something!
Keep an eye on it, Lewpster, I have had this very experience including apology for the distress. Then they went back to business as usual ie whacking on the interest. DH spent literally hours on the phone to them. I think they have different groups within the office and communication is lacking. I do hope they are true to their word for you.DMP since August 2011

Hi All
My usual mix of random thoughts and questions:
So of my 8 creditors:
- I now have an agreed way forward with 5, of which 4 are zero interest and the 5th is a few hundred pounds and I will pay off to avoid default.
- One of the above is my old bank, they rang me today saying they wanted to talk about my offer, I asked if they received my letter. They checked and said yes and they would need to put me through to the right dept. I was put on hold while that dept told them my letter had been received and offer accepted. I asked why they rang me. They said the call was automatically triggered by the letter being received. I'm sure they know what they're doing!
- another one hasn't replied but has paid in my cheque for my proposed payment this month. Can I construe acceptance of my cheque as being acceptance of my offer?
- another creditor seems to be happy but is apparently sending me their version of a Statement of Affairs to complete
- one creditor hasn't contacted me at all.
Does anyone else have experience of opening their 'safe' account just before DMP and obtaining a chequebook? Does the new bank ever remove the chequebook when/if they find out about DMP?
Regards

Hi James,
I opened my safe account pre dmp and have a chequebook. I used it to send all my token payments for 3 months and that didn't cause any issues so I wouldn't worry about it! After all with cheques if you don't have the funds they bounce the cheque so they can't lose money from them.. (I don't think...)
As for acceptances.. I am with stepchange but don't recall getting acceptance letters from all my creditors. The way sc play it is they just keep paying anyway.. I've no doubt any creditor who has issues will be in touch...!

Thanks a lot Puzz, yes I agree re cheques needing funds or being bounced. it made more sense to restrict them when we had cheque guarantee cards, but now they've gone I don't see the problem. The issue about basic accounts (no overdraft etc) seems to have got blurred together with banks wanting to get rid of cheques anyway, even though it's really a separate point.
Sorry for terrible formatting today, am using my phone as don't like to use my work PC for this thread...

Has anyone got any experience of opening an account with Nationwide as their new safe account? We have opened a joint account and rang all the companies to set up DD's and so far 3 of them (Water rates, car ins and house ins) have come back to us saying they are unable to set up the DD as the bank say we don't have an account!! I have contacted Nationwide, who assure me everything with the account is in order but apparently the problem lies with the new sort codes they are using and a lot of companies can't get DD's set up without updating their systems! Apparently they have had loads of customers ring with the same problem. I have told the relevant companies this, but they don't seem to understand. The bank also said that if they still couldn't set up DD, we could always set it up as a recurring payment from the debit card. But house ins say they can't do that, has to be DD or we would have to ring them every month with a manual payment!!! All seems ridiculous to me.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Hi Ploppy:beer:
Both DH and I set up our new accounts with Nationwide (first time in over 30 years we've had separate bank accounts.
All of my DDs seem to have set up okay - when I say seem to have, what I mean is they are all showing on the Nationwide bank account as being set up and the first four have been collected.DFW Nerd No. 1484 LBM 07/01/15 Debt was £95k  Now debt free and happy :j0 -
Spoke to SC today - DMP is all set up and first DD will be collected on 1st March:j:j
We thought about asking to delay it because of car troubles this month, but then realised I had some additional hours being paid in February's salary so decided we would just jump right in and get the DMP started. The car will impact slightly on our emergency fund - which is a bit of a downer in the first month of having an emergency fund but hey ho - the car will be paid for and not by using credit cards.
Revised DFD is 8 years 9 months which I think is October 2023  This does assume the debt doesn't increase (which it will before creditors hopefully freeze interest). No matter what we will definitely be working to reduce that figure.

Can anyone help??
I applied for a Nationwide bank account 2 weeks ago and it is still not up and running. We have been approved but they dont seem to know what they wre doing and we have had a letter today to say we will get our card in approximately 2 weeks!! The problem is our current bank account is one of our creditors; our cc payment to them is due on Thurs, which we are intending to pay but OH wages are due in on Friday. I posted our sc paperwork today but am now panicking again that our current bank will use right to offset before we get our new account up and running. Anyone have any advice please?[STRIKE][/STRIKE]LBM January 2015:(

Can I ask what sort code they gave you? When I rang they told me it is because of the new sort codes they are using? Sounds very odd to me.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hi,
I applied online for a Nationwide cash card account on 20th January and got an email straight away confirming I had been accepted. I received my PIN on 22nd, debit card on 24th and internet and telephone banking pass codes on 26th (even though it said 7-10 days).
I was a bit concerned about whether to manually transfer DDs or to request an account switch so rang Nationwide on 3rd February for advice. They suggested a partial switch to keep my old account open and all DDs and a standing order were transferred by 6th....well, all displayed on internet banking, but none are due to be collected until 20th February. It was a lot more straightforward than I anticipated. The lady I spoke to said it can take up to 3 weeks for DDs to be fully switched, but it was much quicker in my case.
I don't understand why some have more trouble than others, the different sort code reason seems a little strange. Maybe it depends on the type of account, which bank the DDs are being transferred from (Natwest in my case) or which companies the DDs are with? My sort code is 07 04 36 if that helps?
