  • God I waffle a lot when I've had too much coffee! :rotfl:

Sorry if I have scared you BDFSH, I'm of the school of thought that if I know the absolute worst then things can only be better than that.

Court proceedings and CCJs are very unlikely. As long as you are paying then you just aren't a priority to them. They've got much bigger fish to fry. They may threaten it in one of those automated letters but it's highly unlikely - they'll look stupid in front of the judge and they run the risk of the judge actually lowering what you pay.

They're far more interested in those that won't pay. Bit of a benign concept to us DMPers doing all we can but there are people out there that have the means but simply refuse or avoid paying.

I've read back to the 5th part of this thread when I was starting out and I haven't seen anyone have legal proceedings started against them after a DMP was set up. If it's any help it'd take a creditor 6 months to get from no payment made to in front of a judge with no payments made along the way and only then if they're on the ball. That's not us.

If you've said how much you owe then I've missed it (apologies) but if you're starting a DMP then it's within your means to repay in under 20 years. None of my business what you owe so don't feel that you have to share. Either way your creditors will know you're paying all you can and it's a waste of their time going to court as long as the payments keep coming in.

  • Hi All, is it just me or is the DMP lark just too easy. I think I miss all my money worries from the past decade! :o:eek:

Apart from our mountain reducing 2% a month, I've just paid a whole years house insurance in a single hit from my insurance pot stored up within YNAB. I mean come on BB, this is proper adult money management here, you've never done that in your life ;)

And since SC are finally paying Sainsbury's CC into the correct account I even miss their automated call telling me to ring them immediately.

....... off to argue with Mrs BB because that is all the fun I can have now :rotfl:

I LOVE this!!! Just how I feel a lot of the time. I have urges to skip around singing "I am a grown up" but that would kinda undermine the feelings (and thanks to my dodgy leg I physically can't ;))

If Mrs BB is anything like Mr Kate and the arguing either doesn't happen or isn't that entertaining get yourself a twitter account. Many a Friday night can be whiled away "stupid-baiting" or simply observing it.

Alternatively, if you can stand it stick Judge Rinder on iplayer.

It's my new guilty pleasure, not quite as trashy and repetitive as Jeremy Kyle and mildly educational. Thanks to this forum I've correctly guessed the outcome of all loan/credit related cases so far and it rarely has to have the swearing censored so you can actually hear what's going on :rotfl:

Thanks Sazzie and others for the advice!

I started to email creditors today. I'm getting account numbers sorted to send off as well to SC although SC said I may need to ring PDL to get their account numbers. Not looking forward to that! They have been trying to lift money but I emptied the account and have a nice clean one set up and have arranged my pay to go into it next month.

Lots to read on here and lots to sort out!

    Cheers

I did this as I am just starting out (first payment 10th Oct). I made a universal email explaining my situation and how I wish to be contacted and sent it to them all using one email. I personally felt that this way they can see your other creditors in the email address' and it can help to put an emphasis on what situation your in (well worked for me anyway 13 creditors at last count and they just keep popping up) - All of my creditors sent their apologies to hear of my situation and agreed to freeze interest for 30 days ...... massive relief... plus the fact that you then dont have to retype or copy and paste seperate emails.

Obviously this is personal preference but thought I would share.

The following PDL companies I found to be very co-operative, I called some and emailed some

    Mr Lender
    Wage Day Advance
    Quick Quid
    Wonga
    Clear Account
    My Jar
    247 Money Box
    Peachy
    Sunny

4 weeks ago I looked at that list (which is just the PDL elements of my debt) and thought how the hell did i get to this and where the hell do i start. Now I feel 100% better for contacting them. You will still get automated letters saying about court action and charges but these are standard.

Just keep calm and collected, I usually get stressed out about it but that does nothing but cloud judgment and get you nowhere.

    Hope this helps.

    • But I'm back...With exceptional news. I'd had a PPI claim for a 2002 loan turned down a few years ago but being the pedantic mare that I am I decided to try again. Today I have their response. It WAS missold. They have offered... (drumroll please)... £2,798.33 after tax :j :j :j

      Kate x

that's Great news Kate, never heard the saying 'dark before the dawn' -I like it ...and glad to hear youv'e got your dawn:)

I've never made a PPI claim as I never ticked the boxes. I have heard that it was sometimes 'hidden' but havn't managed to find anything online about that - were all your claims for PPI you 'knew' about?

Onwards up upwards... with all these Brucie Bonus credits coming in you'll be debt free by next year :rotfl:!

Yes BB it's just soooo lovely not stressing about keeping all those balls in the air :)... And I'm optimistic that next year (thanks to YNAB too:T) for the first time in my life I will be able to pay insurances in one go - that really does sound so grown up and mature (and I'm only 48) !!

...No more arguing!...I must say this house is a huge lot more chilled and happier now since the DMP started :j

Hi all. Glad I found this thread again after a while.

I started a DMP with 6k debt last year. Due to finish quite soon (next 1/2 months depending on balances) and then 2 days ago QuickQuid (I know) email me out of the blue saying I owe £900.

My original debt with them was around this amount. I have made all my payments to payplan bar 1 month when I contacted payplan and made a token payment (had an urgent expenditure).

I think quickquid are implying that I broke my contract by not making this payment and ever since this point they have been accruing interest to my account and counting it as not on any payment plan (not sure where they are suggesting the payments I have made since have gone).

This sounds thoroughly unreasonable and underhand to me. The first time they have contacted me is by email 2 days ago and as far as I am aware they haven't contacted payplan at all.

Here is the most recent email I have received (today) where I finally manage to get to the 'bottom' of why they are contacting me.

I suspect they will say they have been trying to contact me by telephone for a while. When I started this process I decided I wouldn't let vermin like this harass me, thankfully I still have the email from the beginning of my plan where I tell them in no uncertain terms to only contact me by email.

I am obviously in contact with Payplan but what with it being Friday I hoped someone on here might be able to put my mind at ease. They can't pull stuff like this can they?

Even if this is sorted I will be complaining to whoever will listen about QuickQuid. I get the feeling they have absolutely no idea how badly this can affect some people.

      Thanks

      Sorry lots of questions first:
How long ago was your month with token payments?
Did you notify your creditors of this and the reason behind it? Did all your other creditors agree to it?
Did Payplan agree to this and make the token payments on your behalf and were later normal payments made through Payplan?
Did Payplan accept the mitigating circumstances which meant you could not make full payment?

I don't really understand the section which states:

"your account was removed from credit counseling on 01/09/2014, because for failure to pay for 70 days. "

That's only a few days ago and it shouldn't have been 70 days between payments even if they don't count the token payment.

The bottom line is if they claim they never agreed to the month's token payment, they can say the agreement was broken and introduce whatever interest/charges they previously applied. You and Payplan need to fight this and explain that they were notified and did not make objection to the short break, and that they did receive a token payment in the meantime as a demonstration that you were willing to continue your payments as soon as possible.

If you can't get in touch with Payplan over the weekend and are worrying about this, give National Debtline a call and they may be able to reassure you.

Please let us know how you get on.

This was one claim and half of it is interest! Due to a 16 year case of Ostrich Syndrome I have no idea if I even had PPI. This stuck in my mind because I left employment in 2004 (also lost my house :() and tried to claim as I was living on benefits (before a lot of changes and I was keeping two kids on £200 a month for all bills except rent and loan repayments ) I tried to claim on the PPI (loan payments were £154 a month) but I was laughed out of the bank.

I used the template letter and adapted it. All I knew was it came from HSBC, ended some time in 2007 and repayments were £154. From that they found the details, called me for a discussion and wrote a letter the next day. Really couldn't be easier.

It was a very dark time and I still get guilt attacks now - I don't want to sound self indulgent but at that point I'd choose feeding the kids over eating and we'd rarely put the heating on as I simply couldn't afford it. We used to walk 6 miles to my mum's because I knew she had heating and hot water and she'd feed us but I didn't have the bus fare. My teens were 6 and 5 :( Possibly explains why I'm where I am now to some extent - as soon as I had income I went stupid with it. I feel quite sick just admitting this.

Anyway, fast forward to now, I eventually paid it off and decided I nothing to lose in trying again and two weeks later I'm waiting for payment. Due to that experience I've never taken PPI since and even if the same sales pitch was used I'd refuse a loan if insurance was deemed "essential".

Go for it. All you have to lose is the cost of a stamp and now I have a really cool purple MSE badge as of last night too :D

It's all relative, isn't it? We had massive debt but decent income. I had the advantage of being made redundant with redundancy pay but having a job with the same salary to go straight into. Then we had the disadvantages of needing a "new" car and having to find the top up for our endowment shortfall.

I like what Kate said recently about debt being a great leveller, but I still don't like the judgements made - never on this thread, I hasten to add - that we all get into debt through overspending and luxuries and keeping up with the Joneses ..... I wish!

The closer I get, the more motivated I am and Mr TTFTM is possibly on board more than me!
