Recruitment Agency Job Follow Up

A job agency called me 2 weeks ago about a position and said they'd forward my CV on, and they also said they'd look to see if they had any other positions.

I haven't heard anything from them since though. Is that normal? I'm just wondering what the protocols are and whether it be appropriate to call them to follow up, or whether these things typically take a while?

Unfortunately it's normal for a recruiter to waste your time in this way. I've been for interviews before and had to chase up the result when I haven't heard anything.

It's typical I'm afraid as they will seldom call you or return any calls. Exception being if you wanted to attract their attention and say you want to recruit half a dozen positions immediately for a blue chip company. They will soon find time to give you a call over that.

Did you actually register with the agency in question? (as in go in to their office and fill in the forms and give your bank details etc?)

First of all you have to realise that agencies don't work for you. Once you 'get' that, it's much easier to deal with them. I used to chase agencies at least 3 times a week when I was using them, also I was registered with at least 4 or 5 (paperwork completed) and would pop in whenever possible. That way you are in the forefront of their mind and don't get lost at the back of their candidate box!
