No chance of mortgage?

I have a clean credit rating, have a secure job (well, as secure as they can get these days) no debts apart from student loan, earning £33K.

My husband has a shocking credit rating (defaulted many times on various loans before I met him 10 years ago, still owes around £10K. Married him anyway. He earns £27K.

As I understand it, my chances of getting a mortgage (which I would be applying for on my own on account of his bad credit rating) are decreased by the fact that I live with someone whose credit is bad.

Is there even any point in applying? I would be grateful for any advice.

are you financially associated on your credit reports?

If not then you can make a sole application with a few lenders (not many though). Spoeak to a broker and this should be doable assuming you are not associated.

Depending on your husbands credit report you may still be able to get a mortgage with him on it - but we would need to know what is on there and when.

    In what way?

We have no joint accounts, no joint credit. Our finances are separate but obviously we live at the same address.

Get your credit reports - just to be sure.

There will be a section which says financial associations on there.

He doesn't even know exactly. Honestly, he is the WORST person with money in the world. Hence all our savings are in my name and I refuse to have a joint account with him. :(:o
