When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

    Good Morning!!

    Well after a hectic but relatively stress free house move, I'm finally able to get back into a routine.

    Today I will;

    ● Check bank - need to make sure we have enough in joint account for direct debits.
    ● Call council tax as sent moving letter over a week ago and haven't heard anything.
    ● Call Scottish Power as new home is supplied by them but have no details - will be using Uswitch once I monitor our usage over the next 2 weeks.
    ● Very little spend day - only need some milk.
    ● Breakie/Lunch/Dinner from home.
    ● Begin search for affordable newer used car - our poor wee Fiesta was on it's last legs a year ago and we have managed to keep it going, getting to the point though where repair costs are uneconomical.

    Have a great Thursday everyone, love this thread it really sets your day off on the right footing!

    Keep going, you will get there!

  • Morning everyone.

    * DH has worked out I need to do 5 hrs extra a week in order to reach target so will look out for overtime
    * Ring CC company to pay some balance off as almost at limit and what to use it for groceries.
    * Job search
    * Swagbucking already for today.
    * All surveys available.

    Have a good MSE day all.

  • Morning all,

    Sorry you are still feeling ill Ziggy - take it easy. I have come out in sympathy (bronchitis which is aggravating my asthma - basically feel like I've been run over by a bus). After dosing myself up I have managed to:

    Put a load of washing in (dry and sunny at last today), will check bank accounts and update spreadsheet.

    We need milk so I may send a (small) shopping list to OH to get on way home from work (otherwise he'll end up going for milk today and something else tomorrow and so on).

    Younger son is not at college today so I may persuade him to help with some cooking (older son did pasta sauce and soup yesterday). Need to make a lasagne ready for Mum and Dad who are arriving tomorrow (have thought about cancelling as don't want them to catch this but they don't come often now and I know they have been looking forward to it - will just not do any huggy kissy stuff :().

    Hope you all have a good day x

    Morning Campers,
    Only very small things today, but they all add up, as we all know:
    *Useful couple of hours down the veggie garden - cut some salad for tonight, planted up 3 more big troughs with lettuces, plus 2 rows down the side of a bed, strung old CDs across them to help keep off the local sparrow mafiosi. Made up another '99p Shop' mini polytunnel, bottomed out a compost bin & set it up for the next load, watered everything & drained off a whole bucket of free plant food from the worm composter.
    *Checked for surveys - very few today as am on top of them.
    *Onepoll payment - £40 - arrived in bank account, so transferred it straight to bathroom fund.
    *Meals as per meal plans - jacket potato night. I'm having chilli on mine from the freezer, mr f is having the chicken stew I made yesterday using the last of this week's rubber chicken. ('Jacket potato night' very useful for using stuff up!)
    *Put a hair colour on my yukky roots - a half-price yellow stickered hair colour!
    *Do next week's meal plans.
    *Write shopping list.
    *Finalise what I'm going to bake to take with us to the festival this weekend. 2 mini pizzas & 2 squares of red onion & rosemary focaccia bread already in freezer. It saves a lot of money being spent at the lovely food stalls.
    *Continue current knitting project, which is still the basket of tiny socks to sell. A nice way to use up my sock wool stash.
    That will have to do for today.
    Cheers,
    f x
    (Ziggy - hope you feel better as the day goes on. Lots of fluids & don't do too much x)
    2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
    Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
