    Totally confused now!

I just don't know what to do now for the best. Ignore the letter and there bully tactics or send this prove it letter and acknowledge they have the right address etc.

harveybobbles is not posting based on what is best for you, he is posting to further his agenda that he doesn't want debt collection agencies to be paid.

I'd suggest putting him on ignore.

There are ways to go about it, ignoring the clowns can make things more difficult.

You can scupper them, you just have to use your brain.

Send the letter by post. Sign it. If you are paranoid then sign it but put a light line through it.

The 7 days "deadline" is entirely random and designed to make you panic. I see that it has had the desired effect.

They used to back date the "deadline" to before the letter was posted. Quite deliberately and cynically.

Yes they definitely have back dated it as I received it yesterday but it had the 30th May as the date on the letter.

What's the chances of them having proof to say I owe this?

Nobody knows if they have anything, that's why you need to ask.

They could have bulk bought a debt, with no proof or have all the account details.

I don't want to get your hopes up, you just have to deal with the situation as it arises. Not what may happen, what could happen, you deal with it as it actually happens.

Just send the letter and no more questions till they reply :-).

    Do it now, post tomorrow.

Going back to my original question - does it contain words like if/may/could..?

As for court, does it give you a court date or just a silly empty threat?

It doesn't really contain those words no and it doesn't mention a court date it just says if I don't contact them in 7 days they will contact their solicitor to take me to court for payment.

Bet it doesn't say the word "will".

Hope you've sent the letter today and the fight begins.

    Who is the debt collector?

Thanks so much. Where do I find the prove it letter again? Also should I sign this letter?

The 7 days is up on Friday so should I send the prove it letter recorded?

It's a debt I honestly thought had been paid by my family when I was poorly in hospital.

OP don't panic about this, what you have received is a standard DCA "pay up or else" template letter, one of thousands sent out every week to unsuspecting punters, its just like, me, whom you don't know, sending you a letter asking for money before 6pm this Friday, are you going to send me it ? no of course not, so why would you send any to them ? send the provit letter, see what comes back.
