    Thanks for all your comments.

I get the point that professional advice is required and I am getting some (though it seems to take ages for them to get back to me).

I wasn't trying to ask the same question over and over to get a different answer (that is the definition of insanity afterall!) but rather whilst doing my own research I had what I thought were different ideas so thought I would ask for feedback on them. It is all loud and clear now though and much appreciated for the feedback given.

I don't suppose anyone can recommend a good professional that gives solid, clear advice about such tax matters (IHT mainly but also CGT) at a reasonable cost? Not sure if you are allowed to recommend specific companies or people on this forum?

I think it will, your best getting it confirmed because it isn't a small amount you are talking about

If your parents are rewriting their wills and wish to include trusts etc, you would be well advised to consult a specialist in the field.

Such a solicitor will almost certainly be able to recommend a professional who can assist with the tax calculations.

generally if you intend to express your thoughts as advise on specific questions it is pointless unless you explain what those thoughts are based on
why do you think it will?????????
