Friday 13th

Options
Hi everyone, my OH asked me to marry him a few weeks ago while we on holiday (picked the ring himself and everything!).

Now, I apologize to the superstitious amongst the forum users in advance, but... We were originally thinking of a wedding date of 16/05/2016 - 2 years to the date that we got engaged, however my OH thinks that if we do it a few days before on Friday 13th (which it will be) then the venue will be cheaper.

We are not superstitious at all so it doesn't bother us, but is there actually any truth in it being cheaper?

TIA :)

My future sister in law got married on Friday 13th February and I believe they did get some savings. The fact it was a Friday obviously makes it cheaper than a Saturday. Although she probably lost out as flowers cost so much more the day before valentine's day!
I probably shouldn't mention that the marriage only lasted 4 years! I'm sure nothing to do with the date! Haha!

If you're not superstitious then I'd go for it if it will save you some money.

    Thanks for the reply :)

No not superstitious in the slightest, we have lasted 9 years with no problems so confident it won't break us ha ha

Looks like it's worth looking into, thanks!

I've heard that Friday 13th is actually fairly popular as a wedding date, so you might want to bear that in mind if you're set on a particular venue.

As MissTeach says though, being a Friday it should be cheaper than a Saturday or Sunday.

In years to come, the Firday the 13th will migrate, but the Day Before Valentines won't so your OH-to-be will still get plenty of reminders.

Make it a feature, not a bug! And give the guests clear notice this is a Friday - for those who need to sort leave, that *may* be awkward. Still, two years of planning? Should be OK!

The point about flowers is a good one though - how are you for Relatives Who Garden? (I had three Aunts who pretty much solved the whole floral issue for me. Had we not had a crisis of nerve, & bought a florists bouquet, we could have done every bloom within the family.) If nil, then possibly something glorious in silk might *save* your budget!

May it be just one of many happy days for you!

I think you may have mis-read, we are not getting married around Valentines :) I don't have any green fingered friends or family though sadly, but we are looking at May so it should be ok.

I agree they should have plenty of notice! Save the date cards are a great invention for this very reason. I guess if people can't make the date we choose then that's less heads to pay for :rotfl: only joking - I would love everyone to be there!

You may be right, for the same reason as OH has in mind... maybe all the people that don't believe it is unlucky jump at the chance :-/

Thanks for the point of view, I didn't really consider that. Think I need to do some venue viewing soon! :)

TBH, if your first choice of date is midweek, it will be cheaper than a Friday...but you may find that not so many people are able to attend as it could mean using 2 days leave from work.

My OH was born on Friday 13th, and he seems to be alright. I say go for it.

We married on Saturday 14th. It would have been cheaper on Friday 13th, but only because week's weddings are a bit cheaper, nothing to do with the superstitious link. Not an alternative for us as too many friends working and didn't want to ask them to take the day off to attend.
