How can they do this?

Hi
I have posted on here a few times and have had advice off some wonderful people...you know who you are...and I am following it all.
I am struggling every single month to keep afloat due to the fact that my OH and I are on benefits at the moment, I won't go into all the boring details again. Just incapacity, as we are not entitled to anything else.
I was lukcy enough to get one of the free Pontins holidays and had a wonderful time. My mum gave me some spends and it was wonderful just to chill.
I came back on Friday and checked my bank account to find that they had rejected 2 direct debits and charged me £70!! How can they do this? I called them and tried to get them back but they say no.
The £70 is more than the direct debits were together and now I am overdrawn...so more charges there I guess.
I know I could try to claim them back but this is my 'parachute' account so I need to stay in favour with them.
How can they justify this? Even if I did try to claim it would take weeks and I need this money now! Why is it that everytime you think you are coping something else comes up?
Sorry about the rant...I just feel so miserable today. £70 is nothing to a bank but is a fortune to me at the moment.

I know how you feel ive just been charged by Lloyds who are my parachute account however natwest never closed my original one so now i have this as a spare. They have just charged me £35 for going overdrawn 2 MONTHS! ago and they take it now! but the thing is i transferred £30 into that account just to live off from my savings and now they will swallow it up when it goes in.
So i thought right today im going to write a letter see if they will give it me back after investigating i noticed that they charged me £30 the other month to so ive wrote to them asking for my £65 back.
I just think its worth a try isnt it the price of a stamp to see if they will give it me back as a 'gesture of goodwill' it isnt a lot to them your right but its a lot to us the people who have no money!
Might be worth a letter or phonecall see if they are prepared to refund it just this once.LBM - April 2007Claimed back my bank charges from Natwest - £1196Halifax Credit Card Claiming £467.35 Rec £467.35!/Capital One Card Claiming - £523.92/Barclaycard Claiming - £403.58 Rec £403.58/MBNA Claiming - £584.37 Rec£584.37Proud to be dealing with my debtsUpdate: 2009 - Currently claiming £1900 from Natwest0 -

Hi
Thanks for your replies. The problem is this is not my first charge with them. I was charged once before because another company slapped some charges on my account 6 weeks after they told me they would waive them and that took me overdrawn. I can't see them doing it again for me.
When I asked the guy on the phone was there anything I could do he told me I could write to customer services but it could take 8 weeks to get back to me. I think he was referring to me claiming back bank charges officially.0 -
'scuse ignorance - but what is a "parachute account"?0

Hi Kathy,
Ive just been charged £143 in total by A&L for them not paying a cheque that would have taken me less than £10 over my overdraft limit!!! I've written a letter to them to complain so we'll see how it goes.
It's crap isn't it?? i just seem to have lost the plot recently - i've had charges for past few months. Just got back over £1000 from HSBC and paid it off credit card but they're racking up again at a scary rate!!
It's worth a try writing or going in to beg!!
Good Luck
