Been having a spring clean of the cellar and come across two vintage fur coats which belonged to my grandmother. In vgc. Seems a shame to dump them but does not seem to be much market for them on ebay and being fur coats I doubt charity shops will take them, even though they are vintage farmed mink. Any suggestions?

Almost any war events where there are reenactors will have vintage clothes sellers & really lovely coats always command a premium.
If you don't fancy a muddy field & someone crooning "when I'm cleaning windows", just search "vintage clothes" & see who is within reach. Then try at least 3 for the best price. (You'd shop around for a nice coat, wouldn't you - makes sense to shop around for the best price you can sell at!)
If you have any of grandmothers paperwork regarding the buying or caring for them, or just photos of her wearing them, these little things add value to the buyer, although perhaps not to the dealer.0 -

Old fur is back in fashion and you will get a good price on ebay or a flea market, especially for mink. It might not be the luxury item it once was but from looking at the first page of the "sold listings" on Ebay it seems to be selling for between £50 and £850 (and a lot of them are not real mink)
Please don't throw them out. Homeless shelters and rescue centres will make use of them if all else fails.0 -
I have a mink fur stole that my late OH bought for me many years ago I think I have worn it maybe half a dozen times. My youngest DGD has her eye on it and I have said she can have it ,mind its got my initials embriodered in the lining It was insured separately at some point but now its just on the ordinary house insurance :)But if all else fails if you have a am-dram theatre locally ask if they need it for their props box0

There is a market for them. You probably won't get a fortune for them; peanuts, in effect, for what they originally cost, but if you can sell them direct to the end-user & they are in good nick you can expect £50-£80 each. Your best tool for selling is probably Gumtree/Ebay, to reach a wider audience, using lots of good pictures, especially of any labels & documentation, but be very clear about any rips, tears, bald patches or mends.
If, however, they sell to a trader like me or someone who is going to re-make them (fur gilets being very on-trend just now) you will probably only get around £10-£15 each for them. Which is what I'd be prepared to pay at a boot sale, though I'm not buying any more just now as they are slow to sell & take up a lot of space on my stall. Also, I'm no longer comfortable with the whole idea; I really don't want to encourage people to want new furs...Angie - GC April 25: £351.86/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 21/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
I live near Margate, where there are quite a few vintage shops, perhaps approaching those sort of shop could be useful? Maybe you have somewhere near to you like this?Carolbee0
