Does Next Directory show on credit files?

Hi All

Can anyone confirm if a Next Directory account will show on the credit agency files?

I was under the impression it would but I've had an account since early April now and I still can't see it on Equifax or Experian

Thanks Tori

If it is a credit agreement is signed then yes it should show up. Sometimes though the it doesnt show on CAIS. it is the creditors responsibilty to put it on and some companies dont always, especially if you are upto date with it

We had a problem when the lady trying to buy our previous house got turned down for her mortgage application. It turned out she had paid her Next Bill late and had a black mark against her name on her credit file. It may be then only mark your record if there is a problem, although I am no expert on these things so they may just be being slow and will get around to it eventually.

Yes it does i had an account years ago and it is shown on my experian credit file, maybee they dont do it anymore but i tjhink they do

it doesnt matter too much, as this type of credit is not that benificial to help build your credit score, go for a credit card instead and pay off in full each month

well hes concerned that its not showing up on his credit file... so he must mean that to be that he wanted this to show up so that he could build up his credit score...why else? if he knows hes got the account then why bother chasing it up? it doesnt matter whether it shows up on his credit file or not????

You're right, I did want it to show on my credit file. I was under the impression that Next did report to the CRA's but I also thought that any credit account showing a good repayment history would help build a credit record ..

no, I understand that, what I meant was, that you seemed to be implying that a next directory account was viewed, in terms of credit scoring terms, as being somewhat inferior to a regular credit card account.

If this isnt what you meant, then apologies.

If its any excuse the signatures were not loading up so I didnt see your pink one...not that I'm saying theres anything wrong with a lad with a pink signature!!!

They certainly did when I had mine, (Experian)but I'm going back almost 4 years. Its a good idea to check with them to see whether they have made a mistake. They may have your details but there has been a problem sending it to the credit Reference agencies. When I got my file I couldnt believe how many mistakes there were so it is well possible!!

Yes you are right with this, I suppose it depends on what type of credit you would want to get/may need in the future. Im just going by personal opinion, but an account with a shopping company such as next will by no means compare to a credit card. This is because with a credit card (if you use it properly) there is a record every month that you have paid on time, rather than an infrequent purchase here and there with a company such as this.
Im just going with my experience with Next directory and other store cards such as GE Money. I noticed that after a year with a credit card (all be it a sub prime one) I was able to get a decent credit card. Now I have 4 and about 12,000 of available credit.

The APR is also in most cases alot less with credit cards and therefore will add to your worthiness to get even better deals in the future.

Hope this helps and sorry again! :-P
