Getting a Mortguage after a repossesion

Hi there, can anyone help me please. In 1996 I had a house repossessed due to me taking ill and being off work for two years, I had to go through a bankruptcy. I am trying to get a mortgage now with my partner but have been told from my financial adviser that the Bankruptcy is not an issue but the repossession is a big problem and no lenders will touch me because of it. Can anyone help and offer a direction to go in please as I sure there must be a way to get through this?

I'd suggest you see a broker who specialises in adverse credit.
On what you've posted it's very hard to give much more of an idea than that. I think that whether you're able to get a mortgage at all will depend on your overall circumstances.
For example, the higher your deposit the more likely you are to get a mortgage - there are some lenders that wouldn't touch you with a 5% deposit, but would be quite happy with a 50% deposit.0
