Phone bill debt struggle

I'm after some advice, I opened a 2 year phone contract in Oct 2013 one payment was made from my bank then I changed it to my partners. Since then money has been taken however just going into a pending pot. In feb I recieved a letter to say no payments had been made since nov 2013 and the phone was cut off and it was £15 plus the 3 months bill which I paid however I no longer used the SIM card so didn't realise it still wasn't connected. Last month I got a debt recovery letter saying I owe the full 2year contract which I understand. I have spoke to the debt recovery agency who have been helpful however it's the bank they won't give me a statment because I don't have any photographic id. I have made the debt recovery aware that I have the money back from the bank and can pay the backdated phonebill and assure them it won't happen again however the phone company said they won't reconnect even with a banking error.

Thanks in advance

  • Is there anything I can do or say to get them to believe it was a banking error and get me reconnected? Or do I just have to start paying the 2year contract back to them?

I think once a line has been disconnected, that's it im afraid, do you not bank online ?, statements would be available from there, if you have no photo ID how did the bank open your account in the first place ? seems very strange a bank now allowing there own customer statements of there own account, anyway without evidence its your word against there's unfortunately.

  • Online it just says direct debt but doesn't say who to.i opened it fine without photo id however they now state the policy has changed.i paid in feb to get it reconnected however it didn't get to O2 and ended up in a pending pot which the bank didn't make me aware was happening.

Seems like a lot of hassle, you could make a written complaint to the bank, they will investigate all that has happened, may be your only option.
