    Hi Parva,

Have you thought about starting with somewhere like the south of france to begin with?

I depends on if u have any time constraints If your looking at going for example a month, the website I was reading was saying about driving though france, italy etc. You could always break up the journey and have a couple of days exploring different areas of Europe

Oh and PS, Tenerife is amazing to drive up and down the formation volcanic's and Teide itself
Thanks to money saving tips and debt repayments/becoming debt free I have been able to work and travel for the last 4 years visiting 12 countries and working within 3 of them. Currently living and working in Canada

You could always start by touring the UK? So many places to go you could make the itinerary as long/short as you like.

You may get away without miltary planning if you have near weapons-grade evac plans, but if you have that good a mate & waggon, why not travel with them instead?

A pal who does ultra-lightweight camping leaves stashes of dehydrated food with mates along the route - could you arrange anything similar for medications etc, or is part of the fun the bare naked freedom to just up & go?

    What a great idea !
Hope you have fun and enjoy your trip (no I've not done it myself, just wanted to say this because it would be a pity if you were discouraged from looking into this further)

What about the ferry Portsmouth(?) to Santandar/Bilbao? You could then have the freedom of Spain and perhaps a ferry over to Mallorca.

I guess it may be the difficulty of hiring a suitable car at the other end ... or being 'stuck' wherever you've landed.

I have a set of Lynx hand controls (and steering pin) to use on hire cars, they fit in under five minutes and mean that I can drive most autos. I have had them years and they were worth every penny especially since I drove one of my cars for nearly three years with them because I had difficulty getting fixed controls for that car when I bought it. I use them when I have to borrow one of my husbands cars too, its a waste of money getting fixed controls on every car he has owned over the years.

Its easier to use these than to find specific adaptions such as left leg accelerator ect. and anyone can drive using hand controls, you dont have to be disabled, my husband sometimes uses mine and he always uses the pin.

Lynx are what hire companies provide anyway, they also charge a pretty penny to provide them so its well worth getting a set.

Thanks to all for the excellent responses, it's certainly given me some ideas! Also, I like the idea Sunnyone but it took me long enough to adjust to using my left leg to control a car, I'm not really wanting to learn to adapt to hand controls (interesting though the idea is). Not having a pop, it's just not for me.

Wildwestfan, that idea really does intrigue me as Spain would be a much better starting option, I would only be going VIA France because I had to, I didn't realise that I could bypass it completely! :)

LadyMarmalade / Mojisol, I shall look into them in great detail, thank you both. :)

And for anyone else I haven't mentioned, thank you regardless, some very constructive posts here and much food for thought.

Thanks one and all for the constructive input, it's really fired me up to do this proper. :)

I've done Tenerife (3 times actually). Sadly, I was in the typical tourist bit on all 3 occasions (yes, Americas) but I did hire a car on all 3 occasions and had much fun venturing up to Mount Teide and stuff. It's a 'been there, done that' sort of thing. It was enjoyable but not on a par with Fuerteventura (and if you haven't tried that I can recommend nothing better driving wise). :)
