Small changes big differences

Does anyone have any suggestions for small changes that can be made that have a big difference in terms of being ethical or green.

For example does buying a specific vegetable as organic have a bigger difference over another?

Ten of my favourite that really don't take much effort but do make a big difference (you'll notice the financial benefit as well) :

    1) Replace all bulbs with LEDs or Energy saving

    2) Turn all lights off when not in use

    3) Always run dishwashers/washing machines on full loads

    4) Ensure you recycle correctly

    5) Turn items like PCs, sky boxes etc.. off at the wall when not in use

    6) When cold if you have an electric oven leave door open after use

    7) Drive efficiently - http://eartheasy.com/move_fuel_efficient_driving.html

    8) Don't run water tap when brushing teeth

    9) Reduce time in shower / only fill half bath

    10) Don't tumble dry in Summer - use clothes line.

    Hi

Eat seasonal food wherever possible.... source food which has been produced locally and purchase in bulk ... sacks of potatoes, nets of onions, carrots etc ... it's much cheaper. Learn how to recognise when food such as fruit & vegetables is fresh & when it becomes inedible and how to use old/stale foodstuff in soups/stews/toast etc ...

Develop a relationship with the producer if you can. We know the actual farms & farmers where the majority of our meat (also bulk purchased & frozen) & vegetables comes from and they're almost all within 3 miles of where I'm sitting .... if you can do this & cut-out the middlemen then you'll not only reduce packaging waste, help the local economy, be a lot more green & ethical - but also save a fortune ...

Grow your own veg & fruit if possible and you have space.

Follow reduce, reuse, recycle to limit your footprint.

Walk or cycle rather than driving when you can

I would say there were a few more things than food that should be avoided buying second hand.
