Rebanding refund

Hi, new here, hoping to get some advice. This week we had a letter to say our house had been rebanded, but when the details of the refund came from the council, they have taken this year's council tax off the amount they owe us. I guess that will lower our monthly outgoings - but we'd rather have the lump sum. Can we insist that we have what they owe us and go on paying this year's in instalments?
TIA

Congratulations.
But no you can't.0 -
You can actually ask them to refund you the overpayment rather than it be credited against your outstanding balance (provided that you're not in arrears). If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
