VW bxe engine'd car

Hi,

Hoping for some advice.
I have a 57 plate Seat that has the VW 1.9 TDi BXE engine with 60k mile on the clock.
Now I have read many many stories on the internet about 07-09 plate BXEs engines having major conrod issues where they just fail from 55k miles costing thousands to repair.
I need my car for work, which is a 100 mile round trip commute. The car has been faultless as has the engine, and I am getting about 55mpg every journey so it is perfect, except this constant worry that the engine will fail.
I am very tempted to trade it in for another car and take a small loan out (thinking Honda Civic, or Seat again except not 1.9 bxe engine).
Would you be tempted to keep it (I have no loan on it) and risk it, or trade it in for peace of mind?
Thanks
Stu

Remember for every horror story there are probably a large number of success stories that haven't been plastered online.

The 1.9 is one of those known to be better than most

Loads of Ocatavia taxis out there doing mega miles

Obviously there are a few bads ones out there but thats true of just about every engine.

Have a scout around the owners forums and places like pistonheads.
  • thought it was only a certain batch of these engines that suffered during a certain period.

Presumably as its only a few, VW have extended warranty so their doe eyed customers are protected...:T well maybe...:lipsrseal
